CIPS HPA at the WHO Global Forum for Public Procurement of Health Products 2025

CIPS HPA was honoured to participate in the WHO Global Forum for Public Procurement of Health Products 2025, held in Tunis, Tunisia. This important event, organised by the World Health Organisation, brought together government representatives, development partners, and procurement experts from across the globe to share insights and strategies for building efficient and sustainable health product procurement systems.

Key Themes of the Forum

The discussions focused on four critical areas:

  • Promoting knowledge and adoption of good procurement practices
  • Aligning regulatory frameworks with procurement best practices
  • Encouraging the use of global benchmarking tools in procurement
  • Building capacity for healthy procurement processes

CIPS HPA’s Contribution

Our Regional Program Manager, Esther Njenga, represented CIPS HPA as a panellist in the roundtable discussion on “Monitoring performance of preselected suppliers.” Her key messages included:

  • Highlighting the partnership between CIPS HPA and public healthcare institutions to institutionalise strategic procurement practices.
  • Emphasising that effective supplier performance management is essential for delivering quality and timely healthcare services.
  • Reinforcing that successful monitoring is not about controlling suppliers but about fostering partnership and shared responsibility.

Esther concluded by stressing the importance of incorporating quality at every stage of the health product supply process to ensure product integrity, regulatory compliance, and responsiveness to health needs.

Collaborative Expertise

The panel featured distinguished experts, including:

  • Kehinde Onasanya, UNITAID
  • Hanif Sadat, AMGROS, Denmark
  • Cristina Palau, UNFPA
  • Mr. Sabri Djerroud, Pharmacie Centrale des Hôpitaux, Algeria
  • Dr. Anwar Alsadder, WHO Country Office Jordan

Driving Global Health Forward

This forum reaffirmed a vital truth: progress in global health is never achieved in isolation. By sharing expertise and aligning efforts, we can transform healthcare procurement into a powerful force for good—ensuring essential health products and technologies reach those who need them most, efficiently, equitably, and sustainably.
