Health Procurement Africa at the Global Health Supply Chain Summit 2025

Health Procurement Africa proudly participated in the Global Health Supply Chain Summit (GHSC) 2025, held in Kigali, Rwanda from 17th to 20th November.

This year’s summit was anchored in the theme:
“Powering self-reliance: value chains that deliver, sustain and thrive.”

The event brought together global health leaders, policymakers, and supply chain professionals to explore strategies for building resilient health systems. Key insights from the summit included:

1. Collaboration is Key

Strengthening health supply chains requires multi-stakeholder collaboration to drive systemic improvements and ensure resilient delivery of health services.

2. Strategic Procurement as a Catalyst

Efficient and well-planned procurement can transform public sector medicine supply chains, enabling smarter processes and better value across health systems.

3. Investing in Local Manufacturing

Supporting local pharmaceutical production enhances supply security and fosters sustainable growth and self-reliance within the health sector.

4. Timely Access to Essential Medicines

Implementing effective procurement models is critical to ensuring reliable and equitable access to quality maternal, neonatal, and child health medicines.

5. Bridging Innovation and Access

Closing the gap between innovation and accessibility is essential for promoting long-term self-reliance and sustainable sectoral growth.

This conversation comes at a time when there is an urgent need for countries and global partners to rethink and redesign healthcare supply chains—making them agile, innovative, and resilient enough to withstand future shocks while meeting the evolving needs of communities.

The summit reinforced the importance of collaboration, innovation, and data-driven decision-making to build integrated, people-centered health supply chains.

At Health Procurement Africa, we are proud to contribute to this collective effort to strengthen health systems across Africa.
