HPA joins Council of Governors, Kenya for the launch of the Strengthened Intercounty Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) initiative
On 14th November 2025, Health Procurement Africa proudly joined the Council of Governors Kenya for the official launch of the Strengthened Intercounty Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Initiative—a transformative step toward ending preventable maternal and newborn deaths across Kenya.
Why This Matters
Maternal and newborn health remains a critical priority. Despite progress, preventable deaths continue to occur, often due to gaps in coordination, data use, and accountability. The Intercounty MPDSR Initiative addresses these challenges head-on by fostering collaboration across counties, improving data-driven decision-making, and strengthening oversight mechanisms.
Key Objectives of the Launch
The event was more than a ceremonial gathering—it marked the beginning of a bold, united effort. Specifically, the launch aimed to:
-
Inaugurate the Intercounty MPDSR Framework
A harmonised approach to enhance joint action among County Governments. -
Reaffirm Government Commitment
High-level leaders pledged continued support, accountability, and oversight at the county level. -
Highlight Strategic Interventions & Budgets
Identifying priority actions and resources needed to strengthen maternal and newborn health programs. -
Catalyse Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation
Engaging government, development partners, faith-based organisations, and the private sector to drive implementation.
A Theme That Inspires
The launch carried the powerful theme:
“Beyond Boundaries: Investing in an Intercounty MPDSR Initiative to End Preventable Maternal and Perinatal Deaths.”
This theme reflects the spirit of collaboration that brought together stakeholders from National and County Governments, Parliament, Development Partners, Professional Associations, Academia, Civil Society, Faith-Based Organisations, and frontline health workers—all united by a shared commitment to saving lives.
Looking Ahead: The Investment Case
The Intercounty MPDSR Investment Case (2025–2028) provides a clear roadmap for sustained action over the next three years. It focuses on strengthened accountability, impactful interventions, and resource mobilisation to accelerate progress toward ending preventable maternal and perinatal deaths.
Health Procurement Africa is honoured to be part of this journey. Together, we can ensure that every mother and newborn has a chance to thrive.
