HPA Supports Review of Kenya’s HPT Management Guidelines

CIPS HPA recently provided technical support to the Directorate of Health Products and Technologies (DHPT) during a national workshop to review the Guidelines on the Management of Health Products and Technologies (HPT) in Kenya.

Strengthening HPT Management

The workshop focused on ensuring the guidelines are aligned with current health sector policies and strategies. It also built on previous work by initiating the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for key supply chain processes.

The workshop was supported by the Kenya Paediatric Research Consortium (Keprecon) and Duke University and brought together stakeholders from both national and county levels.

National-level participants included representatives from:

  • Directorate of Health Products and Technologies (DHPT)
  • Division of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (DRMNCAH)
  • Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA)

County-level participation included the Council of Governors and County Pharmacists representing:

  • Isiolo County
  • Kakamega County
  • Trans Nzoia County
  • Nakuru County
  • Migori County

Bringing together national institutions and county-level professionals provided an opportunity to combine policy and technical expertise with practical experience of managing HPT supply chains at the point of implementation.

HPA Providing Technical Expertise

CIPS HPA was represented by Daniel Menge, Technical Specialist, who shared practical insights from his experience supporting counties to strengthen HPT supply chain systems.

Through this collaboration, CIPS HPA continues to support efforts to strengthen health supply chain systems and improve the effective management of health products and technologies across Kenya.
