Strengthening Africa’s Health Systems — One Procurement Leader at a Time!

   

Health Procurement Africa Programme on 25th September 2025 proudly celebrated 48 procurement practitioners from Nigeria who have earned the CIPS UK Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply.

This was not just a certification process but a strategic investment in Africa’s health future. By empowering national talent with globally recognised skills, we are building a resilient and agile procurement workforce that is equipped to deliver smarter, more transparent, and more impactful health supply chain outcomes. In attendance was the Director General Bureau of Public Procurement Adebowale Adedokun , Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Food and Drugs Services represented by Pharm. Henrietta Bakura-Onyeneke Gates Foundation and the CIPS UK Nigeria Country Director Pharm.Chukwudi Uche, MSc, FCIPS (Chartered), PRINCE 2 and the event was ably hosted by Health Procurement Africa Country Manager Pharm. Joseph .Irobodu Omokhapue.

Also present were representatives from State Drug management agencies namely Executive Secretary - Kaduna State Health Supplies Management Agency (KADHSMA) Pharm.Pharm Aisha Tukur Isyaku, General Manager, Nasarawa State Drugs and Supply Management Agency(NASDSMA) Haruna Wakil, Executive Secretary,  Yobe State Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency (YODMA) Pharm. Abdul-Aziz Mohammed; Director General ,Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumable Supply Agency(DMCSA) Pharm. Gali Sule , Executive Director Niger State Drugs and Hospital Consumables Management Agency Dr Umar Ndagi, Director General ,Sokoto State Drug and Medical Supplies Management Agency (DMSMA) Pharm Umaru Attahiru Sokoto and the Managing Director Bauchi State Drug and Medical Consumables Management Agency Pharm. Abdulkadir Ahmed, Permanent Secretary, Health District 11 Lagos Dr Ibidunni Oludayo Lajide including partners such as Nigeria Governors Forum, Pharmacist Council of Nigeria , National Products Supply Chain Managment Programme,Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM), MEBS Global Reach, to name a few.

These newly qualified procurement professionals are now positioned to improve access to quality, affordable medicines, strengthen procurement systems, and drive better health outcomes for millions.

  2. Enhance procurement systems that prioritizes value, transparency, and equity in health supply chains.
  3. Promote structured learning pathways including CIPS qualifications and workshops to foster continuous learning, consistency and excellence.
  4. Champion sustainable procurement practices that reflect innovation, integrity, and local impact.
  5. Ensure access to quality, affordable medicines by building resilient, responsive procurement systems tailored to Africa’s needs.
